The Carton of Eggs
Picture
In our unit on All About CHicken Eggs, we learned that eggs can be sold in a carton... and while there are a number of different types and sizes of egg cartons, the one above is the most common way most people buy eggs. Imagine for a moment that you brought this carton of eggs home and much to your surprise, similar to the Crayon Box That Talked by Shane Derolf or The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt , our eggs began to speak ... using thinking and/or speech bubbles (shown below) create a scene illustrating part(s) of a conversations that may be going on. Remember to try to align the speech with the expressions on the eggs.

Using the sentences below, write a definition for the underlined words.

Then, one fateful morning, I noticed some cracks...
I was cracking up ... literally!
I wandered from town to town.
My head no longer felt
scrambled.

Explain the meaning of the following sentences.

I started to feel like myself again.
I'll be good to my fellow eggs while also being good to myself.
We're a solid dozen again.
It's good to be home.

After Good Egg visits the doctor he says,
"I was cracking up ... literally! Something had to change. I'd had enough!

Why are the words 'literally' and 'had' in italics?
What is it called when we look after ourselves physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally?
Describe some of the strategies that you use to engage in self-care and a growth mindset?

When we worry about things we have no control over or cannot change, it is called anxiety. There are a number of ways we can help ourselves not to worry so much. Good Egg  says,
"I'll try not to worry so much".

Using the slideshow below, what are some of the strategies you could use to help you stop worrying or becoming too anxious?

In the above image, what do you think Good Egg has put on his eyes?

If you guessed cucumbers than you are correct! Now a question for you - is a cucumber a fruit or a vegetable?

Write a few sentences explaining why you think Good Egg is using cucumbers?

Cucumber has an anti-inflammatory effect that helps in reducing puffiness. The high water content helps in hydrating the skin and the cool temperature decreases the flow of blood to the space around your eyes. Together they can soothe the skin around your eyes and alleviate swelling.

Eggs can be sold in various units or numbers... although I do not know if you can ever just buy 1 egg.

What do you think is the most common way, as described in this book, that we can buy eggs? If you said 12 or a dozen you are correct.

Can you think of any other units you might have seen eggs being sold... Use the link below to explore all about chicken eggs and enjoy a fun math lesson ...

While Good Egg is away engaging in self care you have been invited to join the group - the dozen...
Using the template above or  making one of you own, create yourself as an egg.

You have been asked by a marketing company to design a new book jacket (front and back cover) for the book... but before you do it is important that you write up a summary of the book so that you have an idea of what you might wish to illustrate.

In two or three sentences, write a brief marketing summary for the book. Don't forget to include the theme or topic in your write-up.
