Online At-Home Lesson 1
Hello.
So, here it goes... our first online at-home lesson... feel free to work at your own pace and complete whatever you wish...
For those of you who may not be aware, I am somewhat unconventional in my teaching style... you will quickly notice that I teach in an integrated, cross-curricular, and rather unique manner where I can take an idea and manage to integrate it into most, if not all, subject areas. The first week virtual lesson is no exception ... as you will quickly notice it is all about Waldo. This page represents a variety of the lessons that I would teach the students over the course of a week.... check out the music entry I just added at the bottom of this page ... as they say, "music is good for the soul" ...
I hope you enjoy it.
If you have any comments or questions please feel free to contact me using the link below.
Stay well,
Miss Davies

Where's Waldo

Miss Davies has hidden 10 Waldos throughout the website... see how many you can find ...
In this lesson you will learn how to write and create a fraction using the number of Waldos you find being the numerator and the number that are hidden as the denominator ... since it is the first lesson I will help you out:
If Miss Davies finds 1 Waldo my fraction would be 1/10
now I will divide that number 1/10 and I will get 0.10
then, in order to find the percentage I take the 0.10 and multiply it by 100 and you will get 10%
Therefore, Miss Davies only found 1/10 or 10% of all the hidden Waldos
In this lesson you learned the following concepts: fraction, numerator, denominator, and how to create a fraction, by dividing , and multiply .Please be sure to look at the math sections if you are stuck ...

** Note - in the classroom we would break into a few groups at this point for those of us who've got it, are working on it, or are a little confused and would like extra support...

Waldo, loves living in Canada, but he wishes to take a 7 day trip trip... write a paragraph about where you think Waldo should go for his vacation. Be creative and remember to include:
- details about things he might see or do while on vacation
- who he might travel with
- why he wishes to visit the destination you have chosen
- how he is going to get to the destination ie. drive, plane, boat, motorcycle, scooter, bicycle, unicycle (lol)
Quote of the Day
Using your information from Language Arts regarding Waldo's travels as well as what you have learned about habitats and communities list the type of habitat Waldo is going to visit and include some of the plants and animals he might meet/see during his visit. Being creative, demonstrate your ideas using a diorama, collage, written report, or a video etc. - your choice...
Project 2
Using the template provided or your own drawing, create a Waldo that you can put in your front window ... perhaps we can start our own Where's Waldo window scavenger hunt ... if you wish to forward them I will put them on our Student Submissions page
Who knows we might start our own "hunt" in Brantford like these other ones that have gone viral...

Waldo has decided he wants to learn about one of of the many landform regions in Canada ... create a pamphlet highlighting some of the interesting things about this region ... you are welcome to use a piece of paper folded into thirds, or a program such as Microsoft Publisher to create your pamphlet... please remember to include a title, where the region is located in Canada, what provinces it includes, special features about the regions (animals, geography, indigenous groups etc.)
Did you know there are many benefits to listening to music? Crank up the tunes and blast those beats, because the results are in — music is good for you.

Keeping this in mind, as part of your daily homework, I encourage you to listen to a few of your favourite songs...
I have highlighted a couple of songs that I can't help to move along to - interesting to note as they both have very unique and distinct voices... what are some of your favourite, albeit appropriate songs to enjoy!!!
